Nyepi : The Silent Day in Bali

On this day Bali would be complete silence and darkness, there fore it is called the silent day. This is because in this day the people of Bali are not doing activities. They lived in the house and also did not turn on the lights. Even the airport was closed.
Nyepi is celebrated once a year and the beginning of a new year of Saka. This year is Saka 1932. Nyepi held this year on March 16, travelers who vacation in bali, without exception, must abide by this rule. They are only allowed to stay in their hotels. You may also already now about U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Bali in March but maybe he come in March 21, so he can’t feel the silent day in Bali.
The night before Nyepi is called Pangerupukan. It’s like at night is New Year’s Eve. Bali Community held an Ogoh-Ogoh parade. Ogoh-Ogoh is a statue made with a variety of creations, usually describes an evil giant. After the parade, Ogoh-Ogoh will be burned, it is symbol to burn evil in human heart. But now the Ogoh-Ogoh theme not only about evil but also all kinds of people are playing like surfing, the ride harley, and so on. This is the entertainment in the ritual itself. If you visit Indonesia Java International Destination this year before March 15 then you can attend this parade in Bali.
Nyepi interpreted as a time for reflection in the calm. The silent day have a purpose for more closer to the infinite power (God). After Nyepi, we expected can start the day with enthusiasm and new energy to achieve a noble purpose in life.
